Total Solar Eclipse - June 21, 2001

The last minutes of the eclipse saw the sun setting into the Indian Ocean. Note the large sunspot groups visible near the water and the small "bite" still visible on the upper right portion of the disk.

A high resolution image of the sun photographed as the last bits of sunlight are covered by the moon after second contact. A beautiful display of naked-eye prominences covered the upper limb of the sun. Photographed with a 900mm f8 refractor and a telecentric 2x barlow - no filter - 1000th of a second on Fuji 400 asa color negative film by Vic & Jen Winter (C)6/21/2001.
