Total Solar Eclipse
July 11, 1991
Hawaii

For the thousands that traveled to Hawaii for the total eclipse of the sun in 1991 the event turned out to be a great vacation and a horrible eclipse. Our group was lucky... at least we saw part of the eclipse! Rain and clouds moved into the normally dry side of the island the night before the eclipse and showers persisted off and on even as first contact occured. The heavy clouds parted a bit minutes before totality and most of us were able to photograph totality... even if it was through clouds. We were to learn later that just a few miles to our south thousands of eclipse chasers saw next to nothing as it got dark and then got light again.
