Jupiter is Occulted by our Moon - September 15, 1990
On the morning of September 15, 1990 the planet Jupiter, along with its four brightest moons crept closer and closer to our moon. As dawn approached the clear blue sky was graced in the east by a trio of objects. Bright Venus lit up the sky, but the main show was the planet Jupiter near the thin crescent moon. The location was Scopeville, Kansas, USA - about 75 miles southwest of the Kansas City area. The photo (top left) was taken using a 50mm lens with a Nikon F2, color slide film and was tripod mounted. All other photos were taken at prime focus with a 12.5 inch f6.1 , clock drive driven reflector. At 5:15 a.m. Jupiter was occulted by the moon and appeared to "sink" into the moon's surface!
